What is a Pokemon Stat Calculator?
A Pokemon stat calculator lets you compute a Pokemon's final stats from its base stats, IVs, EVs, level, and nature — without guessing. Every Pokemon's visible numbers come from one formula.
With 1025 species across 9 generations, a deep IV/EV breeding system, and per-generation quirks (Gen 1 DVs, Legends: Z-A Grit), there's a lot to master. That's what this calculator is for.
Whether you're breeding for 6 IVs, training EVs for VGC, or building a Showdown set, pick the right tool below.

Open →How the Pokemon Stat Calculator Works
Every Pokemon in the main series games has six base stats: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. These base stats are fixed per species. However, the actual stats you see in-game are calculated using a formula that combines base stats with three additional factors:
- IVs (Individual Values): Hidden values from 0 to 31 that act like genetic potential. Each Pokemon is born with fixed IVs.
- EVs (Effort Values): Gained by defeating other Pokemon. Each stat can have up to 252 EVs, with a total cap of 510.
- Nature: A personality trait that boosts one stat by 10% and reduces another by 10%.
The stat formula (Gen 3 onward) for non-HP stats is:
Stat = floor(floor((2 × Base + IV + floor(EV/4)) × Level/100) + 5) × NatureModifier
HP = floor((2 × Base + IV + floor(EV/4)) × Level/100) + Level + 10Our calculator handles this formula automatically. Just select your Pokemon, set the level, adjust IVs and EVs, choose a nature, and optionally add a held item to see how everything interacts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are perfect IVs?+
Perfect IVs mean all six stats (HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed) have an IV of 31. This gives the Pokemon maximum potential in every stat. In competitive play, a "5IV" Pokemon (31 in all stats except one) is often preferred to optimize Hidden Power type or because one stat is irrelevant.
How many EVs can a Pokemon have?+
A Pokemon can have up to 510 total EVs, with a maximum of 252 in any single stat. Since 4 EVs equal 1 stat point at level 100, the standard competitive spread is 252/252/4 across three stats.
Does nature affect HP?+
No. Natures only affect the five non-HP stats (Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed). HP is calculated without a nature modifier.
What is the difference between IVs and EVs?+
IVs (Individual Values) are hidden values from 0-31 that are fixed when a Pokemon is encountered or hatched — they represent genetic potential. EVs (Effort Values) are earned by battling and can be trained up to 252 per stat (510 total) — they represent training effort.
How does the Pokemon stat formula work?+
For non-HP stats: Stat = floor(floor((2 x Base + IV + floor(EV/4)) x Level/100) + 5) x NatureModifier. For HP: HP = floor((2 x Base + IV + floor(EV/4)) x Level/100) + Level + 10. Base is the species-fixed base stat, IV is 0-31, EV is 0-252, and NatureModifier is 1.1 (boosted), 0.9 (reduced), or 1.0 (neutral).
What is STAB in Pokemon?+
STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) gives a 1.5x power boost when a Pokemon uses a move matching its own type. For example, Charizard (Fire/Flying) using Flamethrower gets 1.5x damage. With the Adaptability ability, STAB becomes 2.0x.
How do Choice items work?+
Choice Band, Choice Specs, and Choice Scarf boost Attack, Special Attack, and Speed by 50% respectively, but lock the Pokemon into using only the first move it selects. They are best on Pokemon that only need one or two moves to function.
What does Eviolite do?+
Eviolite boosts both Defense and Special Defense by 50%, but only works on Pokemon that have not fully evolved. This makes unevolved Pokemon like Chansey and Porygon2 surprisingly bulky, sometimes outperforming their evolved forms.
Can I use custom or modified base stats?+
Yes! Our calculator lets you manually adjust any base stat value. This is useful for theorycrafting custom Pokemon, testing ROM hack stats, or seeing how a Pokemon would perform with different base stats. Just enter your custom values in the base stat fields after selecting a Pokemon.
What is BST and why does it matter?+
BST (Base Stat Total) is the sum of all six base stats. It gives a quick power-level indicator: most fully evolved Pokemon have 450-600 BST, pseudo-legendaries have 600, and box-art legendaries have 670-680. However, distribution matters more than total — 600 BST concentrated in two stats is very different from 600 spread evenly.
